Joakim Skovgaard created this study for frescoes in Viborg Cathedral using watercolor and pencil on paper. The composition immediately draws you into its symmetrical design, a celestial array of angels encircling a radiant, central light. Skovgaard’s use of color is carefully considered. The deep blues provide a grounding contrast to the ethereal figures, while the muted greens and golds give the angels a serene, almost tangible presence.
