This "Vase" (c. 1845–1860) is a unique example of French glassmaking during the 19th century. The Compagnie de Saint Louis, a prominent glass manufacturer, is credited with creating this intricate piece, showcasing the technique known as "verre-a-la-trompille" (glass spun in a spiral). The vase is constructed with a series of colored glass threads, spiraling inwards, creating a mesmerizing visual pattern that reveals the skillful craftsmanship of the period. This piece, currently housed in The Art Institute of Chicago, exemplifies the high quality and artistic vision of the Saint Louis factory during its heyday.
