Jack Staloff made this drawing of an andiron, one of a pair, on paper using graphite and watercolor. What I love about this image is its precision. It looks like Staloff was really trying to capture the essence of the object. You can see the fine detail, the way the light hits the metal, how it's constructed from different shapes. I can almost imagine him sketching, carefully observing the details. It makes me think about the tradition of technical drawing and the way artists have historically used art to document and understand the world around them. Andiron, drawing, it’s all about seeing, observing, rendering, and repeating.
