Pieter Jan van Liender created this drawing, "View of Laren from the Heath," in the 18th century. The spire of the church dominates the composition. The spire, in its essence, acts as a symbol, pointing towards the heavens, a universal gesture found in many cultures and faiths. Think of the ziggurats of ancient Mesopotamia, or the minarets of Islamic mosques – all reaching skyward. Even the simple act of raising one's hand in prayer echoes this primal urge to connect with the divine. Over time, the spire has also become a marker of community, a focal point around which life gathers. And here, one can't help but feel a connection to the spiritual aspirations of humanity. The spire evokes a deep sense of longing, a reminder of our shared quest for meaning.
