Claudio Bravo made this painting, *Return from the supermarket*, with incredible precision, a muted palette, and a surreal twist. I wonder what Bravo was thinking as he was rendering these objects with such detail. I love how the stacked cans are presented, towering like monuments to the mundane. It makes me think about the intersection of consumerism and art, and how the act of depicting everyday objects can elevate them to something more profound. The surfaces of the objects, from the cool metal to the matte cardboard, are so believable. The slight shadows and highlights give the composition a tangible quality. I can imagine Bravo meticulously studying each wrinkle, curve, and shadow, almost holding his breath with anticipation as the image emerged on the canvas. And that brown paper bag! It is crumpled just so. Reminds me of Morandi, and the way he painted the same bottles and jars over and over, each time finding something new in their simple forms. Bravo has that sensibility. There’s so much beauty here.
