Luigi Lucioni’s print, Clouds on Equinox, is a study in texture, built from careful marks. The surface is alive with activity; the cloud formations are rendered with soft, smudged lines, contrasting with the crisp, precise details of the barn and the rugged mountains behind. Up close, the dense network of lines in the foreground pulls you in, almost like walking through a field. It's this back-and-forth between detail and suggestion that makes the print so engaging. Take a look at the way Lucioni handles the light on the side of the barn. The varying densities of the hatching marks gives it a real sense of volume and presence. For me, the work of someone like Giorgio Morandi comes to mind, with his still life paintings. Both artists find a kind of epic quality in the everyday, inviting us to slow down and really see.
