This 1705 silver medal, created by an anonymous artist, depicts Peter Codde, the Archbishop of Sebaste. The obverse features a profile portrait of the archbishop in his mitre and robes, while the reverse depicts a lion (representing the Netherlands) subduing a griffin (representing the Catholic Church). The medal commemorates Codde's successful defense against accusations of heresy by the Catholic Church. The small size of the medal, only 4.4 cm in diameter, makes it an example of an object made to be collected or to be worn as a piece of jewelry.
