This watercolor of a "Side Chair" was made by an anonymous artist, and it’s cool how the artist uses lines to describe and define its form. I really like the artist's attention to detail—you know, the way they show the texture of the seat and backrest? It makes me think about the actual chair, how it might feel to sit in. It feels like the artist had a real relationship to the chair, sitting in front of it, observing it. I like to imagine the artist really getting into the process, maybe even feeling a sense of connection or familiarity with the chair as they worked. You almost get the sense of the chair's personality, its presence. It reminds me that artists are always drawing inspiration from each other, riffing off each other's ideas and techniques. Maybe this artist was inspired by other furniture makers or illustrators who came before them. Anyway, I love how this piece embraces imperfection and open-endedness, inviting us to see something new each time we look at it.
