‘Hola, hola’ carol, by Tadeusz Makowski, is like a wild party on paper, a print bustling with life. You can almost hear the music and feel the energy of the crowd. It’s all done in this stark black and white, which gives it a real punch. I can imagine Makowski, carving away, figuring out how to capture all that movement and emotion with just a few lines. He’s playing with the idea of a nativity scene, but through his own lens. The figures are so expressive, almost like they’re dancing off the page. Looking at this print, I’m reminded of other artists who weren't afraid to mix things up, who took old stories and made them new again. It's all about that conversation, seeing how different artists tackle the same themes, adding their own spin. It leaves you thinking, you know? What does this mean to me?
