Here’s a photograph of the greeting of a Netherlands Government Air Transport airplane, taken by an anonymous photographer. Look at that shiny airplane nose! It’s so huge. I imagine the photographer kneeling down on the tarmac, squinting into the sky, trying to get the right angle. What were they thinking about as they clicked the shutter? Were they excited about the future, about the possibilities of air travel? Photography is an amazing thing. It can capture a moment in time, freeze it forever. But it can also be a lie. The photographer chooses what to include, what to leave out. They frame the world for us. I’m always inspired by the way artists see the world. They help us to see it differently, too. They show us new possibilities, new ways of thinking. Every artist is in a conversation with every other artist, across time. We are all inspiring one another, riffing on each other's ideas.
