Nicholas Roerich made this landscape, Lahaul, with paint, I presume. Look at the way he’s used a limited range of blues, purples, and greens, to capture the immensity of these mountains. There’s something so calming about the simplicity of the colour here. It's all about the process, right? Layering, blending, and letting the colours mingle on the canvas to create this sense of depth and atmosphere. I’m drawn to the texture of the paint. You can almost feel the coolness of the mountain air. See how he's used these thin washes of colour in the sky? The paint is so light it almost feels like you could breathe it in. Now, look at the lower right corner, where the mountain feels solid and close. I’m thinking of Marsden Hartley and his rugged landscapes of Maine, but there's a mystical quality here. It’s art, so there’s no right or wrong answer.
