Natalia Goncharova made this Dynamo Machine painting with oils, but sometime around now is anybody's guess. I look at it and I think, this is a painting that’s come into being by shifting and emerging through trial, error, and intuition. I mean, what was she thinking when she made it? Maybe something like, "Oh, I know, I’ll create a Cubo-Futurist dynamo machine!" I can totally sympathize with the struggle. It's all about the layering, like the thick impasto that adds so much texture and the brushstrokes that feel like they’re exploding with energy. There’s a very deliberate quality to the blue here. It’s a color of cool technology, but also deep feeling. It reminds me of some of Léger's cityscapes. We’re all in conversation, aren’t we? Goncharova’s Dynamo Machine isn’t just a machine; it's a conversation starter. It's an invitation to see, feel, and think differently.
