This photograph, Ruïne van de Tempel van Vesta te Tivoli, was created by Edizione Brogi. It’s amazing how a black and white photograph, drained of colour, can still evoke so much. Here, the photograph uses light and shadow, and a focus on texture, to do all the work. Look at the surface of the stone, the way it's weathered and worn. There’s a stark contrast between the solid geometry of the temple, and the wild, untamed growth of the surrounding landscape. The temple is both permanent and ephemeral. I keep thinking about the negative space: those empty window frames and the gaps in the columns, like missing teeth. They're a reminder of what's gone, but also an invitation to imagine what could be. It reminds me of some of the photographs by Eugène Atget, who also found beauty in the everyday and overlooked. Art isn’t about perfect answers; it’s about asking the right questions, and seeing the world in new ways.
