Sasza Blonder made this oil painting, Composition with a Nude, and it’s alive with her touch. The way Blonder lays down the paint, you can almost feel her in the studio, wrestling with the image, one brushstroke at a time. Look at how the colors kinda vibrate against each other. She uses reds, blues and greens, each dab of color feels like a decision, a little battle, until they find their place in the overall harmony. The paint isn’t trying to hide itself, it's thick and present, like each stroke is saying "I am here!". Notice the dots on the left, how their form is repeated but also subtly altered across the surface. For me, the painting's not really about the nude, but more about the act of painting itself. Blonder reminds me of other artists like Bonnard, who also reveled in the pure joy of color and mark-making. It’s like she’s having a conversation with the history of painting, but on her own terms. It's this kind of playful ambiguity that makes art so endlessly fascinating, right?
