Untitled (overhead view of man walking bride down aisle with woman holding up dress in back) 1941

Editor: This photograph by Martin Schweig captures a wedding from an unusual perspective - directly overhead. It feels so intimate, almost like a memory fading at the edges. What do you make of this bird's-eye view? Curator: It’s a fascinating choice, isn’t it? It almost feels like we’re hovering, unseen, witnessing a deeply personal moment. It distances us, making it feel dreamlike. Do you sense a sort of vulnerability in its exposure? As if we're seeing something we shouldn't? Editor: I do. There's something voyeuristic about it, even though it's a joyful occasion. I guess I hadn't considered that weddings could also be vulnerable events. Curator: Exactly! And Schweig captures that beautifully. It's a reminder that even in celebration, there's a fragility to human connection. A new beginning filled with hopeful uncertainties.
