Lidded jar 1877 - 1882

This lidded jar was made by Crown Derby, using bone china, and decorated with gilding. The jar’s elegant form is achieved by throwing the clay on a wheel and firing it at high temperature. Its surface is a smooth canvas for the gilded decoration. The vibrant yellow glaze that serves as a backdrop highlights the raised gold foliage and butterfly motif.
