Editor: This is Thomas Cooper Gotch's watercolor, "Cornfields above Lamorna," held at the Tate. I'm struck by the repetition of shapes and the muted tones. What resonates with you in this piece? Curator: The stooks of corn become almost totemic, don't they? Grain, historically, is life itself, representing abundance and survival. Consider the color: gold, like the sun, evoking warmth and the cyclical nature of time. Does this resonate with ideas of home or harvest to you? Editor: Absolutely, especially given the coastal setting, there's a sense of the earth meeting the sea. Thank you, I will remember this. Curator: And I’ll consider the idea of the earth meeting the sea more deeply in my future work!
