Guglielmo Taubert made this print of Via dell'Arte della Lana in Florence with etching. It’s all about the lines here, a dance of light and shadow. The buildings emerge from a network of precise marks, like a memory taking shape. Look at the way he renders the stone walls – a constellation of tiny strokes that suggest texture and depth. The darkness pools in the archways and windows, hinting at the secrets hidden within those ancient buildings. There's a beautiful contrast between the solidity of the architecture and the delicate, almost ephemeral quality of the lines. It reminds me a little of Piranesi, who was also obsessed with architectural detail. But Taubert brings a certain warmth and intimacy to the scene. You can almost feel the heat of the Italian sun on those stones. In the end, it's a celebration of seeing, of looking closely at the world around us and finding beauty in the everyday.
