How does this representation—nude figures, carrying large vessels—serve power? Who benefits from portraying labor as an almost anonymous, artistic endeavor? We should consider how class and gender intersect here, and how such images reinforce existing social hierarchies. Are these figures celebrated, or simply utilized as aesthetic objects?
