Sol LeWitt’s Arcs From Sides or Corners, Grids & Circles is a mesmerizing dance of simple lines, probably made with ink or graphite, which transforms into a complex visual field. I can just imagine Sol LeWitt in his studio, patiently building up these intricate patterns, one line at a time. What was he thinking about? Was he even thinking, or simply feeling his way through the process? The beauty of LeWitt's work is in its systematic approach, like a form of visual music, where repetition and variation create harmony and rhythm. But it’s not just cold, calculated geometry. There’s something deeply human about the imperfections, the slight wobbles in the lines, which bring a sense of touch and presence to the work. Thinking about other artists, I can’t help but see echoes of Agnes Martin’s delicate grids or even the obsessive mark-making of someone like Agnes Pelton. All these artists, in their own ways, invite us to slow down and really look. Art isn't about having all the answers. Instead, it’s about posing interesting questions and creating spaces for new experiences.
