Valve Trumpet in F 1870 - 1890

This silver-plated valve trumpet in F, crafted by the French makers Courtois & Mille sometime between 1870 and 1890, is a fine example of 19th-century musical instrument design. The Metropolitan Museum of Art houses this brass instrument with three valves, a design feature that allowed musicians to easily play a wide range of notes and chords. The trumpet’s long, winding tube and flared bell are beautifully crafted, reflecting the high standard of craftsmanship of the period.
