Cricorps made this painting, "Christ en croix," with, what looks like, furious energy. It's all wild lines and clashing colors, like the whole thing’s about to burst apart. I’m really drawn to the way the paint is handled here. It’s almost violently applied, I think. Look at the top right corner where the head meets the vertical of the cross. See how the colours are all swirled together? It looks like the painting was built up in layers, each one adding to the emotional intensity. It's messy, raw, and so obviously made by a human hand. For me, it recalls the expressionistic fervor of someone like Emil Nolde or maybe even the spiritual intensity of El Greco. But Cricorps brings a completely unique vision to the canvas. This isn’t just a depiction of suffering; it’s an explosion of feeling, a testament to the power of art to grapple with the most profound mysteries. It’s a reminder that sometimes, beauty lies in the chaos.
