Sky’s the Limit 

Sarah Joncas's painting *Sky's the Limit* shows a young woman in an aviator's helmet, painted in what appears to be oil on canvas. The smooth surface of the canvas allows for intricate details, such as the wisps of her hair and the fine feathers of the bird perched on her shoulder. Oil paint, traditionally considered a "high art" material, lends itself to realism and depth through layering and blending. The artist has taken full advantage of these properties. Yet, it is not just the artist's technical skill but also her choice of subject matter that adds layers of meaning to this portrait. The pilot's gear, the hawk, and the contrails in the sky evoke a sense of adventure, freedom, and exploration.
