Editor: This is "Labyrinth" by Martin Kline. The dense, layered marks create a striking texture. What can you tell us about its construction? Curator: Considering Kline's process is paramount. How does the act of repeatedly layering marks, the labor involved, change our perception of the image? Editor: I hadn't thought about that. I was focusing on the visual effect of the layering. It's interesting to think about the time and repetition involved. Curator: The repetitive mark-making almost becomes meditative. Perhaps Kline is commenting on the cyclical nature of labor and consumption itself? Editor: That's a really different way to look at it than just thinking about the image! Thanks. Curator: Indeed! Materiality reshapes our interpretations, and context becomes key!
