This annotated page comes from a sketchbook Isaac Israels used at some point in his life. I love that you can see the traces of the book's use – annotations, notes, and even the label from the cover. It’s so process-oriented! The texture of the paper, the smudges, and the various inscriptions give us insight into the artist’s working methods, his materials, and even his thought processes. You can almost feel the artist’s hand moving across the page. I’m drawn to the energetic scribbles and doodles. These marks suggest a restless mind, constantly observing and experimenting. It's almost as if we can see the artist thinking on the page. This page reminds me of Cy Twombly's sketchbooks, where writing and drawing blur. It is a reminder that art is not always about the finished product but also about the journey, the exploration, and the endless possibilities of the creative process.
