Marc Chagall made this print, "Le Cirque," and just look at those colours! It’s like he mixed a whole box of crayons together and then threw in some glitter for good measure. I love how the shapes are sort of floating. You can almost feel the sawdust and the smell of the animals, right? And the colours, so bright and cheerful, are layered in a way that feels totally intuitive, like he’s just letting the paint do its thing. Check out the red horse in the centre. It's so vibrant, it almost vibrates off the page. Chagall wasn’t afraid to embrace the messy, unpredictable nature of the printmaking. His free approach reminds me of Picasso, who also saw artmaking as a kind of playful experiment. Ultimately, Chagall reminds us that art is all about embracing the unexpected and letting your imagination run wild.
