Here we see six photographic images of Khaniá and Soúda in Crete, Greece, captured in a collection of diverse views. The harbor, a vital artery for trade and cultural exchange, is a dominant symbol in these images. The harbor appears as a motif throughout history. In ancient times, harbors were seen as points of arrival and departure, laden with the hopes and fears of travelers. Consider the vessels depicted here, they are reminiscent of the ships in ancient Greek pottery, vessels that carried heroes home from Troy, or merchants to distant lands. Over time, the harbor has appeared in art as a place of departure and return, loss and discovery, influencing our collective consciousness and representing our deepest desires for exploration and connection, a visual echo passed down through generations. Just as the waters of the harbor connect lands, the symbol connects eras, linking us to the past.
