Editor: This is John La Farge's study for the Welch Memorial Window, "The Resurrection." It feels so delicate, almost ephemeral. What symbols or stories do you see woven into the composition? Curator: Notice how La Farge arranges the figures, creating a visual echo across different realms. Christ above, the angels, then the women at the tomb. What do these placements suggest about the earthly and divine realms? Editor: It’s as though he’s connecting those realms… like a ladder. Curator: Precisely. And the women at the tomb—do they remind you of any classical depictions of grief or mourning? Editor: Now that you mention it, that pose is very similar to the women in Renaissance deposition scenes. It's so interesting how the images resonate across time! Curator: Indeed. La Farge uses familiar imagery to convey powerful emotions of faith, loss, and ultimately, hope. Editor: I'll never see another depiction of the Resurrection the same way. Thanks!
