Editor: Here we have an untitled photograph by Jack Gould, showing men in suits standing in a police line-up while others watch. It feels like a scene from a movie, a little bit ominous and mysterious. What do you see in this piece? Curator: It’s like a play within a play, isn't it? The suits, the hats... they create this sense of staged reality. I find myself wondering who's judging whom, and what roles we all play in this human drama. Are we all, in some way, on display? Editor: I hadn't thought about it like that, but I get what you mean. It’s kind of unsettling. Curator: Exactly! Art that makes you question is always a success in my book. Editor: Definitely. It gives you more to chew on.
