"Lantaarnopsteker" (Lamplighter) is a print by Dutch artist Dirck de Bray, dating from 1635 - 1694. The small woodcut, measuring only 79 mm by 91 mm, depicts a lamplighter walking down a street, carrying a ladder and a lit lantern. The scene is set at night, with streetlights illuminating the cobblestone road and the buildings that line the street. De Bray is best known for his engravings of scenes from daily life, such as this one. His work is characterized by a meticulous attention to detail and a sense of realism, which makes this small-scale print an intimate portrayal of life in the 17th century.
