This is an undated drawing titled 'Study of the Head of a Young Woman' by an anonymous artist. Executed in pen on paper, the artwork presents two head studies side by side. Notice the contrast in the use of line and shading; on the left, the head is rendered with delicate, almost tentative lines, while the one on the right shows a more confident application of hatching and cross-hatching to define form and volume. This contrast invites us to think about the process of art making itself. The drawing destabilizes the conventional portrait by fragmenting and duplicating the subject. It also engages with post-structuralist ideas of identity as unfixed and in process. The formal quality of the two heads functions within a larger cultural discourse on representation and perception. The study prompts ongoing interpretation and re-interpretation.
