Robert Adams made this photograph, *From the South Jetty, Clatsop County, Oregon A*, with film, a lens, and light. It is gray, like a memory, and the ocean spreads out like a ruffled, shimmering cloth. I can imagine him there, the wind whipping, the smell of salt filling his lungs. What was he thinking as he looked out at that horizon? Was he contemplating the vastness of the Pacific, or the smallness of human existence? There's a quietness, a stillness that permeates the image. It reminds me a bit of Hiroshi Sugimoto's seascapes, but there's something grittier here. More real. The waves are caught mid-motion, a dance of light and shadow that feels both chaotic and serene. It reminds me that we are all in a continuous conversation, all trying to make sense of this world, one gesture at a time.
