"St. Sulpice, Paris" (1840–42) is a calotype photograph by French artist Armand-Hippolyte-Louis Fizeau (1819–96). The image, which is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, depicts a Parisian cityscape dominated by the prominent facade of the church of St. Sulpice. The photograph shows a bird’s-eye view of the church, with a series of buildings in the foreground and a wall to the left. The overall composition demonstrates the photographer’s interest in architectural detail and the urban landscape. This calotype captures the artistic advancements of 19th-century photography.
