This is a letter to Philip Zilcken by Frits Lapidoth. The looping cursive script speaks of correspondence, of thoughts and words carried from one mind to another. Observe how the lines curve and connect, a visual echo of the human connections that letters foster. Like the ancient caduceus, the symbol of Hermes, the messenger of the gods, writing facilitates communication, but also invites questions. This act of sending and receiving messages can be seen throughout history, from cuneiform tablets to illuminated manuscripts. In each instance, the medium shapes the message. The handwritten note, compared to the coldness of print, adds a layer of intimacy, a direct link to the sender’s soul. The act of writing, filled with the desire to reach another person, transcends time and space.
