Patricq Kroon made this drawing, *Minister en een priester*, with ink and watercolour, at some point in his career. I love how the cartoonish figures are rendered with such loose, confident strokes. It's like Kroon wasn't trying to be too precious or exact, which gives the piece a lot of energy. The way he uses colour is really striking. It's minimal - mostly black, white, and touches of yellow and blue - but it's enough to bring these characters to life. Look at the shadows under the minister's trousers – those quick, scribbled blue lines create depth and volume without getting fussy. And the minister's mustache, with its almost comical grandeur, is just perfect. The whole thing feels like a snapshot of a moment, a quick jab at the establishment, maybe? There's something very Honoré Daumier about it, that sense of social commentary mixed with a wry sense of humor. Anyway, I could stare at this all day, finding new things to appreciate in its simplicity and wit.
