This is a drawing, *Stående figur*, by Vilhelm Lundstrom, which lives at the SMK in Denmark, but could live anywhere, really. Just look at that energy – Lundstrom has laid down the marks with such speed and deliberation! I wonder if he worked from life, capturing a fleeting moment, or if he conjured this figure from his imagination. The boldness of the marks reminds me of the German Expressionists, but there’s also a classical quality to the pose. The figure is holding something in its hand... maybe a mask? What I love about this drawing is its raw simplicity. It is a testament to the power of line and form. Lundstrom is in conversation with artists across time, embracing ambiguity and inviting us to bring our own interpretations to the work. We get to meet the artist halfway, and that's the exciting part!
