Dragan Ilić Di Vogo made this painting called ‘Sada je pravi momenat’ using oil paint. The way the scene shimmers, with all those peachy, creamy tones, makes me think of the kind of classical painting that aimed to elevate you to some higher plane. But, there’s something about the texture, it feels so contemporary. Look at how the paint is almost scrubbed into the canvas in places, especially in the sky. The way the dove is perched on the woman’s body, it feels sort of glued on, which gives it a playful, almost collaged effect. I keep thinking about Magritte’s surrealism here, where objects have a kind of symbolic weight but without any clear or resolved meaning. It’s that play between what feels super real and what’s totally fabricated, that I think gives this painting its interesting tension. Ultimately, art is about opening questions, not closing them down, right?
