Babak-Matveev made 'Penguins' by using bright, almost electric colours to really make it pop. It's like they're not just painting what they see but inventing a whole new way of seeing things. I love the way the colours vibrate against each other – that pink against the turquoise, for example. It makes the whole image feel alive and a little bit unreal. And then there are the penguins themselves, standing there with these bright pink beaks. It's playful, right? And maybe even a little bit subversive. It reminds me a bit of some of the weirder, wilder corners of outsider art, where artists are just making stuff from the heart, without worrying too much about what anyone else thinks. Like, imagine if Henry Darger had a day-glo phase. 'Penguins' feels like it's part of that ongoing conversation about what art can be, pushing boundaries. It's art that embraces ambiguity, and that's what makes it so interesting.
