Flag before 1862

The "Flag" is an anonymous work of art, dating from before 1862, composed of fabric with a dark gray main panel, a thin brown band at the bottom and a vertical, brown and tan panel with embroidery. This historically significant work is most likely an actual flag or banner, with the decorative embroidery on the side possibly representing royal insignia or other symbols of authority. The material and its condition, however, suggest that this Flag is more likely an artifact, or a piece of historical clothing than a work of art in the traditional sense.
