Atelier Kurkdjian made this photograph of a building sometime between 1925 and 1931. It's fascinating to see how the monochromatic tones shape the image, almost like a very limited palette that forces you to see the details in a different way. Look closely at the columns. Aren’t they something? They’re so regimented and repeat across the facade, like an exercise in perspective. You can almost feel the sun beating down, the shadows cast, and the stillness of the place. What I love is how the light defines the form. It reminds me of some of the stark architectural photos by Bernd and Hilla Becher. You know, the ones that document industrial structures with such detached precision. But here, there's a warmth and humanity that’s palpable, which is really what art is all about. It’s about looking and looking again, and finding new ways of seeing and feeling, even in the most ordinary subjects.
