This is Jo Bezaan's 'Boerin,' made sometime in the first half of the 20th century. The stark contrast between black and white really grabs you, doesn't it? It's like Bezaan carved directly into our sightline. I wonder what she was thinking, making this print. The lines feel so deliberate, so sure. Look at the way the figure is framed by the trees and that ghostly horse. It's such an interesting composition. The lines create this whole mood, a world you can almost step into. It’s like she's saying, "Here, look at this, really look." You can see the influence of other artists. It makes me think of Gauguin, with a hint of German Expressionism. It’s all connected, you know? One artist talks to another across time and space, and we get to listen in. Each mark, each choice is part of this big, ongoing conversation.
