Bishra (Announcement) 

Abdul Qader Al Raes created "Bishra," or "Announcement," using fluid strokes of paint that blend abstraction with Arabic calligraphy. The process begins with stretched canvas, an industrial product that’s become a standard support for painting globally. Al Raes then uses brushes to apply layers of acrylic paint, building up the surface with vibrant color. The loose, gestural strokes capture a sense of spontaneity, yet reveal the artist's skillful control of the medium. Look closely, and you will notice how the fluid application creates a sense of depth, with the Arabic script emerging from a ground of blended hues. Al Raes skillfully marries traditional calligraphic forms with contemporary painting techniques. In doing so, he invites us to consider how making processes can bridge cultural heritage with modern modes of expression.
