Editor: This is Charles Keene’s sketch, "Mr Punch," now held at the Tate. It’s a quick little thing, but the character in the middle, with that amazing nose, completely steals the show. What do you make of it? Curator: Keene's line is so wonderfully spontaneous, isn’t it? It’s like catching a fleeting thought. Look at how he captures the theatricality of Punch, even in repose. Do you think he pities Punch or sees himself in Punch? Editor: That’s a great question. I hadn’t considered the self-portrait angle. Curator: Perhaps it’s both. Perhaps it's neither! The beauty lies in the question, wouldn’t you agree? Editor: I would. It makes me want to learn more about Keene and Mr. Punch!
