Lubomír Jarcovják made this untitled print, we don't know when, but it’s etched into a plate and pressed onto paper. I imagine Jarcovják hunched over a metal plate, carefully layering tones to create a sense of depth and texture. What did Jarcovják listen to while he was working? Maybe he wasn’t listening at all, maybe he was thinking. That dark, almost brooding shape dominating the corner feels like a weight, yet the parallel lines create a visual rhythm, a sense of structure trying to hold its own against the unknown. I see influences from different artists, like the minimalist precision of Agnes Martin, and the bold, graphic sensibility of someone like Josef Albers. The artwork speaks to the ongoing conversation between artists across generations, constantly riffing on each other's ideas, pushing the boundaries of what painting can be. It's an embodiment of thought and feeling.
