This 'Body Wrap' was made by an Ewe artist. I love the material directness of this piece, a real testament to the artmaking process. Looking closely, you can see how the texture and color create a rhythm, almost like a musical score. The repetition of the rectangular blocks, framed in a warm yellow, is so striking. Each block is full of subtle color changes: reds, greens, oranges, each woven together, giving a sense of depth. It’s clear that each block represents individual time and care. The edges of the woven material are raw and imperfect. It's like the artist is saying, "Here it is, in all its glory. The piece reminds me of Anni Albers, who embraced the grid and process driven forms of modernism in her own weavings. These are artworks that find endless fascination in simple forms, and allow the viewer to contemplate a multitude of possibilities.
