This 'Body Wrap' was made by an Ewe artist, but when exactly, we don’t know. You see all these rectangles, made up of stripes, surrounded by yellow borders? Imagine the artist creating them, one at a time, shifting colours and patterns, making adjustments here and there, until the whole thing just *emerges*. I imagine they’re thinking about all the other woven things in the world; the textiles, cloths, tapestries, and carpets. What it must have been like for other artists creating shapes and rhythms through weaving. The material itself - all that thread - is soft and tactile. The colours – pink, orange, yellow, and red – feel so warm and inviting. Now, see how the edges of each rectangle are slightly imperfect? I wonder if the artist did that on purpose. Maybe they wanted to create a sense of movement and energy. Or perhaps they embraced the imperfections, allowing for chance and spontaneity. In the end, it is this conversation, this back-and-forth between the artist and the material, between intention and chance, that makes the artwork so compelling. It's a reminder that art is never finished, but always evolving and transforming.
