This vase, painted by Plateelbakkerij Arnhem, features delicate butterfly motifs and palmettes. Just imagine the patient hand of the painter, building up these layers of intricate ornament. I wonder, when they were making this, were they thinking about transformation? The butterfly emerging, symmetrical and beautiful, from the earthy vessel. There's something so hopeful in that. The colors, soft blues, greens, and golds, feel both natural and refined. Look at the way the lines curve and flow, creating a sense of movement. It reminds me a little of Art Nouveau, but with a Dutch twist. You can see the artist playing with flatness and depth, creating a surface that’s both decorative and full of subtle visual interest. It’s like they’re inviting us into a world of dreams and possibilities. I often wonder what artists were thinking when they made something like this. We are all in constant conversation with each other, remixing and reimagining what the artists before us have done.
