"The Hole in the Wall" (1765) is a woodblock print by the renowned Japanese artist Suzuki Harunobu (1725-1770). The print features two figures, a man and a woman, against a background of a wall and a tree. Harunobu is known for his delicate use of color and his depictions of everyday life in Edo-period Japan. The print is now part of the collection of The Art Institute of Chicago, which acquired it in 1933. The artwork is a fine example of ukiyo-e, the popular woodblock prints that captured the fleeting world of Edo.
