Leo Rubinfien captured this image in Bombay, on Juhu Beach, in 2008 using gelatin silver print, the kind that gives you that lovely grey scale, almost like a pencil drawing. The way he's framed the little child, with those big eyes looking slightly down, makes you wonder what's going on in her head. And the hands holding her, those soft folds of skin, it’s all about connection, right? You can feel the weight of care and tenderness in the image. I'm thinking that the choice of black and white pushes it away from being a mere snapshot. It’s got this timeless quality, like an old family photo you'd find tucked away in a box. It's simple, but it's got depth. It’s cool how artists like Rubinfien keep the conversation going, showing us new ways to look at each other, reminding us we’re all just trying to make sense of things in our own way.
