Sasza Blonder made this painting, Kompozycja abstrakcyjna, with oil on canvas. The color palette here is muted and earthy, with greens, browns, reds, and grays all kind of blending together. You can see Blonder layering different colors, one on top of the other, and this gives the painting a real sense of depth and texture. It looks like the paint was applied fairly thinly, but there are still some areas where you can see the brushstrokes. Look closely at the shapes – there are rectangles, triangles, and circles. These forms look casual but are carefully placed in the composition, which has a solid structure that doesn’t make itself too obvious. Maybe that's a bit like Mondrian, but with a kind of rougher, hand-made feel. The painting feels like a record of the artist's process, like you can see him thinking and experimenting as he worked. This work reminds me of some of the paintings made by the Gutai group, and other artists who embraced ambiguity and multiple interpretations in their work.
