Robert Filliou made this sculpture, "The Mona Lisa is on The Stairs" from, well, a mop, a bucket, and a sign. I can almost feel him, a mischievous imp, slapping that sign together, scrawling "La Joconde est dans les escaliers," and propping it on a humble mop handle. I wonder if he’s chuckling, thinking about our expectations of art and beauty. You know, sometimes the most profound statements come from the simplest gestures. Filliou's choice of everyday objects throws our gaze off, making us question what we consider "art" anyway. It’s like he's saying, hey, maybe the Mona Lisa isn't just some untouchable icon, but something that can be found, or maybe even lost, in the most ordinary places. It’s Fluxus, it’s poetry, it's a joke with a wink! It reminds me that art isn't confined to gilded frames or marble pedestals, but a constant conversation across time.
